CCSO: 10-year-old girl accidentally shot in the leg by boy on James Island

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 10-year-old girl has been transported to the hospital after she was accidentally shot in the leg by a 10-year-old boy on James Island.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation began just after 5:30 p.m. when deputies responded to a shooting in the 1800 block of Grimball Road.

When deputies arrived they learned that a young girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg was transported to a hospital.

“A 10 year old juvenile male was present,” CCSO officials said."Detectives interviewed available parties and examined the scene."

A sheriff’s office report states at this point, detectives believe that the boy accessed the firearm and accidentally shot the girl, as there is no indication that the shooting was intentional.

“The victim’s wound is serious, and she is in treatment at a hospital,” CCSO officials said."Detectives are still investigating the matter and are working to locate the owner of the firearm."
