JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The James Island Holiday Festival of Lights will be temporarily closed on Friday night because of flooding, Charleston County Parks officials say.

The annual event brings approximately 200,000 visitors to the island each year. This year’s closing only marks the second time the festival of lights has closed in 29 years.

Charleston County Parks officials say, they will evaluate the park on Saturday and will reopen if conditions allow.

The Holiday Festival of Lights features an estimated two million shimmering lights, making it one of Charleston’s most popular holiday events.

The holiday attraction includes:

  • Marshmallow Roasting
  • Festival Train Rides
  • Interactive Lakeside Lights
  • The Amazing Dancing Light Display
  • Enchanted Walking Trail
  • Old Fashioned Carousel
  • Portable Climbing Wall
  • Santa’s Sweet Shoppe

The holiday attraction opened for nightly admission on Nov. 10th at 5:30 p.m. and will remain open until Jan. 1, 2018.
