Can Listening to Classical Music Calm Kids?
PBS's Canvas has been following a school program that uses classical music to relieve the stress and anxiety of school students nationwide. Mindful Music Moments is a listening session used in kindergarten through middle school where students listen to classical music for the first ten minutes of their school day and either meditate or work on a quiet activity.
The program was started by a Cincinnati yoga instructor who uses music to help trauma patients in therapy. Cleveland-area students told PBS that the music helps them relax and focus on the school day ahead. Teachers say the program has given kids a special place to handle the stress of school or home life.
