The FCC wants to change the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to an easy-to-remember 3-digit number similar to 911.
On Thursday, FCC recommended to Congress that '988' replace the current 10-digit number of 1-800-273-8255.
The agency said the change "would likely make it easier for Americans in crisis to access potentially life-saving resources".
