Charleston native Alyssa Maute Smith is the Executive Director of Charleston Wine + Food, where her passion for community, education, and sustainability is shaping the future of the organization as it approaches its 20th anniversary in 2026. Appointed in 2023 after serving as Interim Director, she has led the festival to record growth, including welcoming 38,000 guests and generating nearly $32 million in economic impact in 2023, while also introducing free community programming and industry-first initiatives to support local talent and create greater equity in the culinary world.
Previously, Alyssa served as Director of Marketing + Communications, securing national media in outlets like The New York Times and Food & Wine, and landing a multi-day NBC TODAY broadcast from the festival. She also forged award-winning partnerships and programs with the College of Charleston, where she continues to mentor students.
Recognized among Charleston Business Magazine’s “50 Most Influential” in 2024, Alyssa is a graduate of Clemson University and the College of Charleston and holds leadership and diversity certifications through Together SC and the Charleston Metro Chamber. She has also served as a Washington Fellow in the office of U.S. Representative James Clyburn. Outside of her professional role, she enjoys cooking, gardening, exploring Charleston’s dining scene, and adventures with her two young sons.
