CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Despite concerns about whether new voting machines would spark problems on Election Day, county election officials say there have been no serious problems.

There was a machine issue at the Memminger Elementary School voting location, but that issue did not stop people from voting at 7 a.m. when polls opened, according toCharleston CountyBoard of Elections and Registration Executive Director Joseph Debney. One machine had an issue with code, he said, but all other machines were open.

Fewer than 4,000 voters turned out for absentee voting ahead of election day. Election officials provided a breakdown of where absentee voters came from:

  • Charleston: 2,084
  • North Charleston: 1,085
  • Mount Pleasant: 451
  • James Island: 124
  • Awendaw: 116
  • Isle of Palms: 74
  • Ravenel: 49
  • Seabrook Island: 18
  • McClellanville: 3
  • Lincolnville: 3

Overall, for a municipal election, turnout at all locations has been pretty steady, Debney said.

Polls will close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
