CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Several warming shelters in the Lowcountry are opening their doors this week with low temperatures hovering around freezing.
The Aldersgate United Methodist Church has announced its shelter will be open Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Warming Shelter is located at 1444 Remount Road. Registration for the warming shelter will last between 7 and 9 p.m. unless previously arranged and the shelter closes at 7 a.m. the following morning.
Aldersgate United Methodist Church says the Winter Warming Shelter will provide a hot shower, warm clothes, toiletries, overnight lodging and an optional devotion.
Those looking for public transportation to the shelter can board Carta Bus Route 13 and ask for the Aldersgate warming shelter.
Pets are not permitted at this warming shelter.
The St. Peter’s AME Church in Walterboro will also be open Wednesday night with doors opening at 7 p.m. and closing at 10 p.m. Dinner will be served and guests can stay until 8 a.m. Thursday. Breakfast will be served before they must leave.
Bethel AME Church in the 5500 block of Memorial Boulevard in St. George will be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. Dinner and breakfast will be served.
