A Johns Island woman passed away after an alligator attack on Kiawah Island. 58 year old Cynthia Covert was found in a pond near Salt Cedar Lane on Kiawah by the police. The incident is still under investigation. The Johns Island woman was an animal lover, often promoting fundraisers for rescue organizations. According to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources record, she was the third person to die from an alligator encounter in the history of the state.
