South Carolina Senators Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham worked together to secure a $21.6 million grant for the South Carolina Ports Authority, which is located in Mt. Pleasant. The Senators joined forces back in July to try and secure a grant for the investment by contacting the DOT Secretary, Elaine Chao.
The grant money, awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation to the South Carolina Ports Authority, will help to make improvements at the Ridgeville Commerce Park and create thousands of new jobs at the facility. Improvements to the Ridgeville Commerce Park will include the following:
- Construction of a new two-mile long industrial access road.
- Construction of a new 20-acre truck chassis/empty container storage yard in preparation for development of an import distribution center.
- Widening of approximately three-quarters of a mile of an existing off-site road (SC27) to provide improved access from the project site to I-26.
