The Mount Pleasant Police Department is warning citizens of fake phone calls where scammers pretend to be Apple employees. The scammers are 'alerting' callers that their accounts have been hacked and instructing them to purchase large amounts of gift cards or iTunes cards in order to stop the hacking. Mount Pleasant Police Department's Lieutenant Chip Googe claimed that one person was told to purchase $10,000 in gift cards and that they would be reimbursed.
You should immediately hang up and call Apple's official support line if you receive one of these calls. Speak with one of Apple's customer service representatives or support technicians.
