BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Deputies have arrested a wanted man who they say ran from a traffic stop which led to an extensive search in Moncks Corner on Wednesday.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old Chavis Lane Aikman of the Windwood area of Berkeley County.

Aikman was taken into custody near Cypress Gardens Road.

Residents at the Strawberry Station subdivision off of Old Highway 52 reported law enforcement units throughout the day searching around their neighborhood for Aikman.

According to the sheriff’s office, Aikman said, “Man I don’t want to be on the news" as deputies took him away.

Aikman faces charges of third-degree burglary, grand larceny, and petit larceny. The sheriff’s office said he will also be facing several more charges after his attempt to escape on Wednesday.

Deputies said Aikman has been arrested in Berkeley County six times since 2012.

Those charges include five counts of non-supportive parent, false information to police, violation of probation orders and public disorderly conduct.

"Members from the Berkeley County Warrants Unit, Berkeley County K-9 Unit, Berkeley County Patrol and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources were crucial aids in getting the suspect in custody,' BCSO officials said.
