BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says one of their corporals was arrested for driving under the influence while off-duty.

Beaufort County arrest records state Todd Alan Ferguson, 55, was booked for driving under the influence at 4:14 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies say dispatch first received calls at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday about a Toyota pickup truck being driven recklessly.

The BCSO says they located and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle near Broad River Road and Parris Island Gateway in Burton.

When they approached the vehicle, deputies say they identified the driver as off-duty Sheriff’s Office Corporal Todd Ferguson.

Deputies say they then requested that South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers respond and assume the investigation, as they suspected Ferguson may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

When troopers arrived at the traffic stop, BCSO says Highway Patrol administered a field sobriety test to Ferguson. Following the field sobriety test, troopers arrested Ferguson for driving under the influence and transported him to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

The BCSO says Ferguson was released from the detention center following a bond hearing Monday morning, but disciplinary action regarding his employment at the Sheriff’s Office is pending.
