CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A fundraiser to benefit the Lowcountry Food Bank raised money that will help families in need put food on the table during the holidays.

Live 5 News and iHeart Radio partners worked together in the “Hope for the Holidays” campaign and raised $87,951.

The Joye Law Firm was one Lowcountry business that also contributed. The firm presented a $3,000 check Monday.

“We know that 2020 has been a rough year for a lot of people. It’s also been a tough year on food banks. They’re overwhelmed,” managing partner Kenny Harrell said. “We really need these organizations stepping up to really keep people afloat when its really a challenging year.”

Wells Fargo gave a $50,000 matching gift to the effort earlier this month. That means that the financial institution pledged to match every donation dollar for dollar up to $50,000.

While the fundraiser has ended, the need for help will persist through the holidays and into 2021.

You can donate to the Lowcountry Food Bank at its website.

Food bank officials say this year, more people than ever are in need. The food bank is receiving requests for help from many people who have never before faced food insecurity.
