Lowcountry healthcare providers expanding access to vaccines

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - As the state prepares to open up vaccinations to anyone over 16, health care providers say they’re expanding hours starting Wednesday to accommodate the surge in those seeking the vaccine.

Wadmalaw Island

Fetter Health says they will be administering second shots of the Moderna vaccine on Wadmalaw Island in Charleston County.

Officials say they will be administering the second doses from 9 a.m. to Noon Wednesday.

The New Bethlehem Baptist Church located at 1945 Liberia Road will be the site of the vaccinations.

Georgetown County

To help meet the spike in demand, Tidelands Health says they are expanding their evening appointment availability in Georgetown County.

Hospital officials say they want to make sure anyone eligible who wants a shot, can make an appointment.

People looking for a vaccination are encouraged to call 1-833-669-7468 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. every day if they hope to make an appointment.

“You start to get more and more working people that really can’t come in the middle of the day,” Tidelands Health Chief Operating Officer Gayle Resetar says. “Out sites have been fantastic at serving everyone with this vas’s majority of the initial people served in that retirement age and this is an opportunity to keep making sure that there’s no barrier. We want no barrier to receiving the vaccine.”

Colleton County

Fetter Health officials say they will also be hosting a first-come, first-served clinic at the Colleton County High School.

The Colleton County High School is located at 150 Cougar Nation Drive in Walterboro and the first dose vaccination clinic will start at 9 a.m. and go until 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Health officials say they will be distributing the Moderna vaccine.
