General Election:

Deadline for political parties to certify candidates for President and Vice President.

September 19, 2020

Deadline to mail General Election absentee ballots to military and overseas citizens

October 2, 2020 @ 5:00 PM

Deadline to register to vote in person for General Election (unless county board holds weekend hours).

October 4, 2020 @ 4:59 PM

Deadline to register to vote online or by fax or email for General Election.

October 5, 2020

1) Deadline to register to vote by mail for General Election (must be postmarked by this date).

2) County boards must have in-office absentee voting machines available for General Election

October 30, 2020 @ 5:00 PM

Deadline to apply for absentee by mail ballot for General Election. Warning: voters should apply at least one week prior to election day to allow adequate mail time. Applying late puts voters at risk of being unable to return ballots by the deadline of 7:00 p.m. on election day.

October 31, 2020

Last Saturday prior to General Election. County boards must hold absentee voting hours from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

November 2, 2020 @ 5:00 PM

Deadline to vote absentee in person for General Election.

November 3, 2020

General Election. Polls open 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

November 3, 2020 @ 7:00 PM

November 5, 2020 @ 5:00 PM

Deadline for military and overseas citizens by mail ballot return. Ballot must be mailed no later than 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd.

November 6, 2020 @ 1:00 PM

Deadline for county boards to:

 Hold provisional ballot hearing.

 Canvass votes.

 Certify results. Order any necessary recounts for county-level offices.

November 11, 2020 @ 10:00 AM

State Board of Canvassers meets to canvass votes, certify results and order any necessary recounts for state-level offices.

November 11, 2020 @ 12:00 PM

Deadline for filing protests of county-level offices with county boards.

November 16, 2020

Protest hearings held by county boards for countywide or less than countywide elections.

November 17, 2020 @ 12:00 PM

Deadline to file protests of federal, state or multi-county offices with the State Board of Canvassers.

November 23, 2020 @ 12:00 PM

1) Deadline to file appeal of county board decision to State Board of Canvassers.

2) Deadline for county board to submit transcript of protest hearing to the State Board of Canvassers.

December 7, 2020 @ 12:00 PM

Latest possible date for State Board to hear appeals. Appeals must be heard not later than noon, 14 days following filing of appeal.

December 12, 2020 @ 12:00 PM

Latest possible date for State Board to hear a protest of a federal, state or multi-county offices. Protests must be heard not earlier than the fifth nor later than the 25th day following filing of protest.
