Another day passes and another day of Trump being forced to sit in court. The NYC trial of former President Trump saw problems with the jury selection process today as well as a contempt filing from Manhattan District Attorney.
Many of Trump’s supporters have claimed that he has been politically persecuted and today provided yet another example. The district attorney of Manhattan decided to file a motion against the GOP leader for contempt of court claiming he violated the gag order.
Alvin Bragg’s office decided that Trump’s recent social media post violated the gag order issued by Judge Merchan which prohibited Trump from commenting on court employees, prosecutors, jurors, or witnesses. Of course the judge and the Manhattan district attorney were exempt from the order seemingly silencing the right, to allow only voices from the left to be heard.
“It is absolutely critical that defendant immediately halt any conduct that would violate the April 1 order’s narrow restrictions to protect the integrity of the ongoing trial. A finding of criminal contempt, imposition of sanctions, and stark warning from this Court are the minimum remedies necessary to achieve this indispensable objective,” the motion read, with possible fines and imprisonment as punishment.
The Truth Social posts mentioned Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen and a written statement from Stormy Daniels in 2018 denying any extramarital affair, but has since redacted claiming she was coerced.
Trump posted the caption “LOOK WHAT WAS JUST FOUND! WILL THE FAKE NEWS REPORT IT?” With Stormy Daniel’s statement reading, “The fact of the matter is that each party to this alleged affair denied its existence in 2006, [2011], 2016, 2017 and now again in 2018. I am not denying this affair because I was paid ‘hush money’ as has been reported in overseas owned tabloids. I am denying this affair because it never happened.”
