Democrats and some Republicans, like Beaufort Senator Tom Davis (R), are trying this year in the South Carolina legislature to legalize cannabis for medical purposes. Davis tells 'Mornings with Kelly Golden':
"This all comes up in the context of my bill that I filed that would allow doctors, under certain specific conditions, to authorize patient use of cannabis if that doctor ... believed that cannabis could be of medicinal benefit. And, my bill ... limits cases to very specific conditions and limits them to cases, for instance, PTSD, Glaucoma, Epilepsy, Parkinson's, Cerebral palsy - things where medical science has shown that cannabis can have a medicinal therapeutic affect. And, the idea here Kelly, is to give doctors an option because far too often what the default to is prescribing opioides that create far more problems than they address."
