Statement from the American Heritage Association, post Council meeting:
'Charleston City Council deferred the vote on the ordinance establishing the Human Affairs and Racial Conciliation Commission. The deferral was made in order to allow members of council to draft and introduce amendments to the ordinance. These amendments will be voted on at the next meeting on Tuesday, February 8th.
The American Heritage Association would like to thank those members of council that voted in favor of deferral, especially Councilman Peter Shahid who made the motion. '
