A tiny village called East Palestine in Ohio, population < 5000 people, will forever remember 2-3-23.
We know EPA is involved, we know FEMA is involved, and we know the CDC is involved. We know home inspections and home engagements have taken place, air monitoring stations set up, and waste disposal sites determined. We know the local police and fire chief, the mayor, and even the governor are doing all they know to do.
But did you know 78 outside fire departments responded? 78. The first responders are always America's heroes.
Todd Gerhart is a lowcountry small business owner here in Charleston, SC who spontaneously packed his car on February 21 and traveled 11 hours to meet the people of East Palestine.
"I met with residents, shop owners, pastors, and firefighters, and headed home on February 23 completely moved by what I experienced and a giant vision of the next steps. I invite you to join me because changing lives will change us. It's a win-win."
Gerhart is adopting 3 of the volunteer fire departments to provide funds for the replacement of their gear: Darlington Township Fire Department, Chippewa Fire Department, and South Beaver Fire Department.
"One tanker/equipment/hoses need replacing and cost $10k. These fire departments have held small fundraisers over time, but there are not enough car washes and raffles to provide for all that's needed."
Twenty-six firefighters are needing to be suited up and each cost $7k. Gerhart is asking for not only 'We The People' to step up and help, but also area fire departments.
"If the air and water are contaminated, you can imagine what their gear is like. Everything is contaminated. Everything is ruined."
