HELENE RELIEF: Lowcountry Volunteer & Donation efforts cont.
CITY OF CHARLESTON FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS UNITE
Hurricane Helene devastated communities the Upstate and in North Carolina. People have lost their homes, businesses, and many are still without power or cell service. The City of Charleston’s Police and Fire departments have been deploying first responders, equipment, and supplies to our neighbors in need. Both CPD and CFD are also hosting donation drives for necessary supplies for those affected.
The Charleston Fire Department has deployed 16 firefighters with rescue equipment and vehicles to Greenville County to aid in search and rescue efforts.
The Charleston Police Department will be sending 36 officers in two phases from October 7th until the 17th to Henderson and Buncombe counties – specifically the Fairview community-- to assist with recovery efforts, including security at distribution centers, fuel escorts, and public safety around critical infrastructure.
To support these efforts, CPD and CFD are hosting donation drives at any of Charleston Fire Department station from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. or at Charleston Police Department Headquarters from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. through October 11th.
